Postcard from Caye Caulker

Crossing into Belize our first stop was at San Ignacio where we had hoped to do caving at the highly-recommended Actun Tunichil Muknal. Alas, this was where the peril of travelling in the rainy off-season reared its ugly head as heavy rains flooded across bridges and left us stuck in town.

Postcard from Tikal

Having done two killer 12 hour bus rides by now,we had one final push from Antigua to Flores so that we could get to visit Tikal – one of the largest archaeological sites of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilisation and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

With no time passing at all, we reached Antigua which was the break point between both parts of the trip and a welcome break from the constant unpacking and repacking by staying in this UNESCO World Heritage site for three nights.

Postcard from San Cristobel

In another life I would be a rally car driver and practice in Mexico. Getting the shotgun seat on the road from Palenque to San Cristobel that ascends into the highlands, the entire 5 hour trip was a rollercoaster ride bouncing from curve to the next.
