Coming up to the two year anniversary of this blog, it has now moved to a new home both at a new hosting provider and also at a new address: www.lifeoutsidetheviewfinder.com.
I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile but never got around to now until last Sunday when Google decided, erroneously, that my old domain (www.takeexit60b.com) had malware installed on it. So they blocked my site which was hugely annoying and with neither MediaTemple or myself being to find any such malware and Google refusing to lift the block I decided that it was a good a time as any to make all these changes.
Most of them are really around organising everything better in the background to make it easier for me to maintain but the small changes you will see are:
- Changing the domain of the blog to actually be the same as its name
- Moving my photo archive to be the under this new domain
- Removing the blog excerpts on the home page so the last 10 posts can be visually seen
- Updated the search results to just show the post thumbnails so it’s visually easier to look through
- Simplified the style of a blog entry page so that it’s cleaner and focused more on the content itself
As for the stuff that’s happened behind the scenes:
- Moving the hosting of my site from MediaTemple to InMotion Hosting who have been very helpful and quick on the support requests
- Hardening the installation so that it’s hopefully less easy to hack into
- Separating out the domain registrar from the hosting provider so, in future, it should be easier and quicker to change hosts
- Updating the excellent Arras theme I use to the latest major version and created child themes to preserve my customisations so it’s easier to restore
Although it’s been a complete pain having to do this unexpectedly in a short space of time it was a good test of how to restore my blog on a new domain on a new hosting provider in a few days.
So if you could update your bookmarks to the new link that would be great and thanks for continuing to read my blog – it is much appreciated. :)
