Back at the start of June, Winnie invited me to enjoy a bit of culture on a sunny Saturday with a matinee performance at the Young Vic theatre.
So to fuel us for the play, we went for fish and chips at Fishcotheque which occupied a highly unassuming place on Waterloo Road. I must’ve walked past it quite a few times and would still have ignored it if I hadn’t been recommended to give it a try.
Entering, I liked how the interior was a throwback to the fish and chips shops of yesteryear with the out of date decor and the advertisements from a bygone age.
But what matter most of all was how good were their fish and chips. Starting with the chips they were as expected from any half-decent chippie so no complaints about them. And the fish was really very good indeed with a delicate batter encapsulating the fresh and light cod inside which was cooked perfectly. And best of all, our meal was very reasonably priced for what we got! Now to find time to venture to the Golden Hind to try their take on this classic British dish.
Fed and watered, Winnie went down to the Young Vic theatre to see “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” starring Delroy Lindo. I can’t really recall how many years since I’ve see an actual play and not a musical so it was good to be doing something different. It was my first time to the Young Vic and it had a cool chilled out vibe to it.
I loved how intimate the stage was and how us, as the audience, encircled the actors so you could really see their expressions and emotions as they weaved us through the story through to the dramatic conclusion. A surprisingly enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon and delighted to find yet another fascinating aspect of London. My thanks to Winnie for inviting me along.
