Putting myself in the hands of Alice for our Sunday get together she really outdid herself and introduced me to two fab food places in Spitalfields Market.
Starting off with my first ride on the new London Overground line it was good to finally see air-conditioning on the Tube … and it’s only 2010. :)
First stop was The LUXE and along the way we passed by this rabbit sculpture which reminded me of the hilarious Ravin’ Rabbids game that I had fun playing at Kay’s & Andrew’s back in April. With a chic industrial interior and a bubbly yet relaxed atmosphere inside, it was pretty easy to see why it’s such a popular choice for a Sunday brunch.
Alice went for the flat mushrooms on toast, poached egg & hollandaise whilst I completely pigged out on a LUXE big breakfast: toast, egg, beans, grilled tomato, mushroom, bacon, sausage, black pudding & hash brown. Both dishes were very tasty and it was a fabulous way to start off Sunday – all washed down by a refreshing ABC juice: apple, beetroot, carrot, celery, lemon and ginger.
Walking brunch off by wandering through the market and exploring the various boutique shops, Alice’s next stop for us was Teasmith – a little cafe specialising in artisanal tea. It was amazing watching the staff go through this ritual of ensuring the water was the right temperature, the cup was warm, the tea was infused for the proper length of time.
So the green tea matcha with elderflower they made for me was really very good and just what I needed to cool down. And Alice really enjoyed nibbling on the William Curley biscuits we got with our drinks. A perfect quiet place to retreat to from the mayhem of the market outside.
My thanks to Alice for showing me both places which I heartily recommend as a good way of spending a sunny Sunday in London.
