The Cow

Next up from my photo backlog is a wonderful Saturday seafood brunch with See Yun and Wendy at the rather confusingly named The Cow gastropub.

Looking for somewhere different for lunch this time we avoided the West End. Instead, we headed to the chilled-out and leafy area of Westbourne Park to check out the this Tom Conran owned gastropub that Time Out had highly rated.

The downstairs wasn’t particularly impressive but the dining room on the 1st floor has this warm cosy vintage vibe about it. You would think for a placed called The Cow it would a meat-fest but instead the majority of the menu was seafood.

So we got stuck in with Wendy going for a pint of prawns for starters which we had fun shelling but was worth it to get to the sweet taste inside. See Yun and I, both loving oysters, went for a plate of Fines de Claires and Irish Rock each and enjoyed the taste sensations going from the rich buttery taste of the latter to the light texture of the former.

Satisfied by the starters we eagerly awaited the main course and the girls were impressed by the gastropub’s signature fish stew with rouille & croutons. With that having a bit too dairy for me, I opted for the handmade tagliolini, crab, tomato and chilli which had this intensely rich flavour that had memories of the lobster noodles my Dad used to make for me when I was kid flooding back.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed on chatting, debating if we could fit in dessert (which we amazingly declined!), as other tables came and went around us. A great way of spending a Saturday in London.

Wow it’s amazing how beautiful food can be! And I don’t even eat most seafood!

@April: Glad that you like the seafood photos – especially since you don’t really eat it! :)
