Ros & Dan’s Banquet Tasting

With Ros and Dan looking into two catering options for their wedding, I joined them for both to help them decide which one to use and what food to serve … but mainly to get two free meals out of it. :P

Visiting the first caterer back in March, Ros & Dan opted to try out an Asian-themed menu which produced some interesting results. For example, in their canape selections, their take on hot and sour soup was very different to what we expected but their rack of lamb was excellently done.

My favourites from that caterer were:

  • Starter: Fried sea bass with shiitake mushroom and walnut salad
  • Main: Sesame seared beef fillet on a bed of stir-fried chow mein served with sauteed shiitake mushrooms
  • Dessert: Mixed fruits served with a lemongrass syrup and mango sorbet

And the second caterer we visited last Saturday where Ros and Dan opted to taste a more Western themed meal and my favourites from them were:

  • Starter: Chargrilled Meditarranean terrine with aubergines, courgettes, and cherry tomatoes
  • Main: Vegetable torte with a light tomato coulis
  • Dessert: Summer pudding

I am really not a fan of vegetarian food but, surprisingly, their were really tasty. So, if I could, I would take the meat dishes from the first caterer and have the vegetarian dishes from the second caterer. But, having to choose between the two, I would go for the first caterer as their food was both better presented and did taste better.

As for which one Ros and Dan chose in the end … well, you’ll have to wait for their wedding in June to find out. :)
