After months of waiting, finally got to see Snow Patrol in concert at the inimitable Royal Albert Hall as part of their Reworked tour.
It’s only been eight months since I took Bela to see them at the O2 on their “Taking Back The Cities” tour and this time I had the pleasure of See Yun’s company. Part retrospective and part re-adaption this concert had an entirely different feel to the previous tour. Less stadium gig and more of an intimate session with the band it was hugely enjoyable listening to their lesser known works, their take on Madonna’s “Ray of Light”, and stripped down versions too. And, of course, they played their anthemic classics much to everyone’s delight.
All helped by being in the Royal Albert Hall which just seemed to bring everyone closer together. The ones on the side were literally next to the band and some of the very lucky ones got a a hug from Gary (the lead singer)! And he was entertaining mixing his Irish charm, rambling on with the audience, with a sense of wonderment and that they were actually playing in this venue.
Classic line from him in the second act was: “this isnt compulsory as we’re not in North Korea but I’d like it if you guys stayed standing for the rest of the set if that’s alright?”

Highlights of the night for me was the entire audience filling the rafters with the chorus of “Run” in unison, the RAH organ bellowing out to “Dark Roman Wine”, and the ever-rousing “You Are All I Have” and “Take Back The City”.

A magical night in a brilliant venue experiencing the incomparable charm of Gary Lightbody and the soaring music of Snow Patrol. Simply stunning!
@Debbie: Thanks for your comment. It was a fantastic concert, one of the best I’ve been to, and had a great time there. And to think that I almost didn’t go! :)
