Meeting up with Alice for an elegant seafood brunch at the Blueprint Cafe.

Located above the Design Museum, which I’ve been to a few times, it was my time to the restaurant. And with the overcast day holding off on the rain for a bit, we had a good view of the Thames and of the iconic Tower Bridge too. The restaurant even provided some binoculars!

Alice loves seafood and so we had a two course set lunch based on that. For starters we had the grilled herring on toast with a fried egg and a poached egg and beetroot salad. Both were delightfully good and paved the way for the highlight of the mea – the main course.  I had this perfectly grilled mackerel, which I had fun dissecting, and yummy potatoes in a mustard sauce whilst Alice was very impressed by the vast quantity of roe that was bursting from her slice of plaice.

Given it’s location and the view, the lunch was a little pricey but with food and service that was actually worth it. Usually you pay for the view and put up with everything else. So a good place for a special occasion or if you want to splurge. :)

PS:  My thanks to Alice for patiently waiting as I tried out my tilt-shift lens for some impromptu food photography of our dishes!
