As much as I love meeting friends in groups, there are times where it’s so much more satisfying having dinner and conversation with just one. So last Wednesday, Priya and I met up to catch up by trying out Sushi Hiroba in Holborn – as recommended by Bela.
It’s been awhile since I ate a kaiten-sushi restaurant and so had to remember to pace myself rather than try and take every dish off the conveyor belt at the start! And even though we got there as they opened for dinner it was reassuring to see that the belt was still filled with plenty of choices so you didn’t have the same dish pass by repeatedly.
The stand out dishes were the shime saba (mackerel) nigiri with just the right level of saltiness and the Holborn maki (crab stick, cucumber with chopped eel, mixed vegetable, house mayonnaise, teriyaki, furikake and salmon roe on top) which was a creamy explosion of flavours. Whilst the mochi ice-cream dessert was a pleasurable surprise even though it wasn’t the mochi azuki that I thought it was.
With so much food in us Priya and I finished the evening with a stroll along the South Bank to London Bridge – one of my favourite walks in London. Great catching up with her and good food too. So if you’re craving a sushi fix then go check it out. They even have a branch in LA and in Seoul but that’s a bit far – even for such good food! :)
