Asadal / Jump

Before going to watch the matinee performance Korean comedy / taekwondo performance, Jump, with Swee we grabbed lunch at the nearby Asadal.

I had dinner there a few weeks earlier as Yvonne, who was briefly in London for a recruitment presentation, was craving Korean. So meeting up with Kaori as well we all tried Asadal for the first time. Located literally next to Holborn station the whole restaurant is located in the basement. Walking down the stairs from the mayhem of people entering / exiting the station, it was like entering a different world. An oasis of Korean calm with the thoughtful combination of dark wood and subdued lighting creating a stylish place to dine in.

On both occasions the food was excellent. My favourite dish was the yukwhe bibimbap as the beef was good and it actually came in the burningly hot stone bowl, as it should, to crisp up the outer layer of rice. Absolutely delicious and I was so happy that I managed to eat it again!

Afterwards, Swee and I sat down to watch Ye Gam Theatre’s production of “Jump” on its fourth run in London – such is its popularity. The performance is essentially a dizzying combination of taekwondo and slapstick comedy. The first half was funny though an odd combination of showcasing their talents and audience participation. In the second half the show really got into its stride with alternating between moments of sheer hilarity that I was in tears of laughter  and moments of physical prowess that left us amazed.

It was well worth going and so cute seeing all the kids afterwards running around practicing their mock marital arts on each other and on their poor parents! The show runs until the 21 November and if you have the opportunity I’d thoroughly recommend that you go and check it out.
