RTW Trip Preview – Hong Kong / Macau

After Singapore I spent a few days in Hong Kong to relax, catch up with friends, and got to visit Macau for the first time before heading to Cambodia for a week.

Its been over two years since I last visited and it was comforting to be back in familiar surroundings which prompted more than a few fond memories from the flurry of trips I did back in 2007 when I was with Grace.

That said, it was even better to met up with some friends I’ve not seen for awhile and hang out seeing a different side of the city: with Alice chilling out out over a mammoth burger in Soho, with Carmen relaxing in Discovery Bay, and with Seline exploring the Jockey Club Creative Art Centre with her hilarious friends.

Although Macau is only a short boat ride away from Hong Kong I’ve never got myself over there so Carmen organised a packed day trip there with her friend, Magdalen, which was a lot of fun. Ranged from happily wandering through downtown photographing away the old buildings to laughing at the utter kitsch of The Venetian Macau compared to actual Venice. Have to go back next time during the night to see the other side of the place when I’m next passing through Hong Kong.

Next up … my week long trip to Cambodia visiting Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.

Latest travel statistics: 9 places visited, 17 time zones crossed, 44.8 hours spent in 11 planes, and 8 movies watched.
