Following an explosive first day, here’s the second photo set covering Annie and Bill’s wedding as well as watching sunset over the Pacific Ocean with Chrissy.
Continuing the theme of doing something new, Brian took me for my first Hawaiian breakfast at Rutts Cafe which was a little strange (wonder if I’ll ever get used to eating rice first thing in the morning?) but still good before getting all suited and booted for Annie and Bill’s wedding in Laguna Beach.
Having known Annie over the years since I first met the family through Ray when we both lived in Singapore back in 1998, and having seen her work her way all the way past law school, it was particularly heartwarming seeing her, looking ever so radiant and resplendent in her wedding gown, getting married to Bill.
They say that weddings bring everyone together and this wasn’t an exception as it was great catching up with Carley (Sophia’s flatmate), Justin (Sophia’s boyfriend), and Molly (Ray’s fiancee) once again since my last visit in 2007. And although I didn’t have much time with them or even really with Annie and her family it was still good just to be there and give everyone a hug.
And then, having to leave for my evening flight, Chrissy took over from Brian as she kindly agreed to not only be my plus one for the wedding but also to drive me to the airport. So I had fun getting changed in the back of her car, taking the scenic coastal route, whilst we chatted away, just like we used to when she was still in London. After stopping off for a quick bite to eat we got to see the breathtaking view of sunset over the Pacific Ocean which casted everything in a magical purple hue.
After only 31 hours of being on the ground it was time to bid adieu to LA though not before having an In-N-Out burger, as I always do, before flying out.
My thanks to Brian for hosting me and ensuring that I didn’t shoot him; to Chrissy for accompanying me to the wedding and sending me to airport; and finally to Annie and Bill for inviting me and thus being partially responsible for why this crazy trip was actually done. :D
Next up … the first part of my visit to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.
