RTW – Cook Islands – Part 1

Arriving in Rarotonga here’s the photo set of my first day exploring the island by car and realising that a tropical paradise can also be a tropical washout!

Dawn was just breaking when I checked into my room and loved my view of the Pacific Ocean along with the sounds of the waves crashing on the reefs a few hundred metres offshore.

With minimal public transport I rented a car for the day. Not having driven for three years it was fun getting used to driving again and at the beginning I was a bit worried that I was going to do something silly. Thankfully it was pretty easy to get around as there was only one main road and it was just a single loop around the coastline. However, I had to be careful not to park underneath a coconut tree otherwise I’d have a pretty flattened car to come back to!

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t being so cooperative with the overcast skies and sudden downpours. So that, coupled with such an early arrival, meant that I just chilled out with a walk along the coastline and enjoying some fresh seafood for dinner before crashing for the night.
