Earlier this month spent a fab Saturday after returning from my trip catching up with friends, seeing a different part of London, and eating far too much – as usual!
The day started early first meeting Ivor and Ana Maria so that I could say hi to their newborn girl – Kara Giselle. She was so well-behaved and just slept blissfully as the three of us caught up at Simplicity enjoying their ever-excellent brunch.
Afterwards, I headed over to Brick Lane to meet up with See Yun and Wendy so that we could try out Story Deli Pizzeria that I spotted a few months ago. Loved their different take on pizza which was not only delicious but light too and really hit the spot. Especially considering how much I had eaten at brunch not too much earlier!!!
Being not hugely familiar with the area we wandered around soaking in the relaxed vibe. Wendy found a really warm aquamarine woollen top in this little market and I was busy jotting down a few places to check out on my next visit – such as this Swedish restaurant which got me craving meatballs again!
Then, we headed over to check out the Wallace and Gromit exhibition at the Illustration Cupboard where it was fun checking out the storyboards as well as the figurines used for the arduous stop-animation technique. With time to spare before meeting Swee for dinner, I took Wendy and See Yun to the Royal Academy of Arts for some tea and we were impressed by this amazing sculpture by Anish Kapoor as part of his exhibition there.
Trying to choose a dinner option between friends is usually quite fun – especially if everyone is trying to be accommodating to everyone else. So we just assigned each person an arbitrary choice and then played “rock, paper, scissors” to see which choice won out. Hilarious and we ended up having juicy ribs at the Cattle Grid. This was rounded off with gelato at Scoop and on the way over we ran into this huge inflatable bunny by Jeff Koons – part of the Pop Life exhibition at the Tate Modern.
Finally, finishing off a great day, cocktails on the South Bank, relaxing away, discussing options of where to spend New Year’s Eve abroad. Not a bad way of spending a Saturday evening at all before, all too soon, it was time to head home. Felt good to be back in London once again.
