Back in the Royal Albert Hall, this time with Shizuka and Kaori, being the classical music fan, who chose this particular night to attend Prom 46 – “Symphony No. 11 – The Year 1905″ by Shostakovich.
Compared with the previous Prom I saw with Caroline a few weeks ago, this one was a lot busier with the arena floor area completely packed with everyone standing. Partly because of the programme of Glanert’s “Shoreless River“, Rachmaninov’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” and Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 11 – The Year 1905” on offer.
And partly because of the conductor for the evening, Semyon Bychkov, who has a leading reputation in interpreting Shostakovich’s works.

So much so that at the of the three-hour concert there was a standing ovation that went on so long that the conductor, Bychkov, returned four times to the stage to appreciate the musicians and take his applause.

After the concert, just as I had done with Caroline and now seems traditional, I introduced Kaori and Shizuka to Kensington Creperie for some well-deserved dessert after a bit of culture on a week night.
