Learning 한굴 (Hangul)

안녕허세요 (Hello)! Thanks to Jeong-Su, I now have a Korean Apple keyboard on which I can (very slowly!) write in Hangul.

About a week ago I started Stage 1 of my intensive Korean language class at SOAS and am now halfway through this two week course. Each week, there are three two-hour sessions after work and two two-hour sessions on Saturday and coupled with all the homework and vocabulary revision – its pretty much taken over my life now.

There are ten other students in the class from a variety of ages and backgrounds and reasons for studying. Some because they have Korean partners, others for work, and quite a few just for the love the language.

Even though it’s hard I’m enjoying it a lot and it’s really helping bring together what I’ve learnt from my own self-study as well as from my trips to Korea. One element that’s definitely improved has been my ability to read Hangul though my vocabulary needs serious work!

And helping with that, a few days ago I received from Jung-Su an Apple keyboard with Hangul script on the keys so that I can now practice typing too. At the moment I’m super slow trying to find the right key for each syllable but hopefully, with consistent practice, I’ll be able to touch type as quickly as I do with English.

So, 고마워요 정수 (thanks Jeong-Su!).

    Hello~ 안녕하세요!

I am a Korean and I feel very great our language is being loved by non-Korean.

It may be too late to submit this comment (after one year from this post;)

I hope you understand Hangul’s and Korean’s attraction.

@White_Arrow: Thanks for the comment and appreciate your thoughts. I’m still trying to learn Korean though with work and everything else it’s taking a lot longer than I expected! Perhaps I need to move there to really learn your language. :)
