Being in London on the first bank holiday Monday of May, I found out about the Royal Horticultural Society’s self-guided Garden Trail. So, given how interesting it was visiting the Chelsea Physic Garden with Kay and Andrew back in February, the three of us went traversed London to view four of the gardens.
It was a lot of fun making our way from west to east seeing the various gardens on show which normally wouldn’t open to the public. We actually meant to see five but hunger overtook us after the fourth garden and we opted for Vietnamese pho instead!
Each of the gardens had something that I loved. With the town garden, I thought that the open-air fireplace was a brilliant idea both as a focal point as well as practically keeping everyone warm at night. With the communal garden,it was the shared space for the residents to get together. With the Kings Road garden I was amazed that there was this oasis just metres away from the flurry of shoppers making they way along the busy road. And with the Great Ormand Street Hospital garden, it was the contrast between the beauty of that versus the necessary clinical nature of the hospital itself.
And now I’m thinking that it would be kinda cool to have a garden … though being on the sixth floor I’ll have to make do with my balcony. Which reminds me … I should really water my plants a bit more regularly!
