After Sylvia’s & Nestor’s wedding earlier in the day, I went over to Dan’s & Ros’s apartment where I was honoured to be their first dinner guest for Ros’s cooking. And so, as was befitting of the occasion, I photographed Chef Le in action as she whipped up a fabulous meal for all of us.
Starter, prepared by Dan, was game terrine on sliced bread seasoned with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. And for main course there was salmon cha ca, with side dishes of tasty pork meatballs and deliciously tender hoi-sin marinated spare ribs, and rounded off with pho accompanied with Ros’s secret take on Vietnamese nuoc mam dipping sauce.
Completing dinner, was a home-made chocolate mousse which was assured to be dairy-free until I ate it and Dan then remembered that he had added white chocolate instead of dark!!! After more of a decade of friendship I’ve lost track of how many attempts he’s made to hospitalise me because of my lactose-intolerance. :D
Seriously though, it was a great meal and Ros was a perfect hostess. Maybe a little too perfect as after I finished everything and had pretty much collapsed on the sofa she offered me a Crunchie bar … then more cookies … then made some prosciutto with melon and rocket salad. And if I really hadn’t stopped (or if the film we were watching was much longer) I really don’t think that I could’ve got up at all!
So my thanks for having me over and hopefully to even more and even better home cooked meals by Chef Le.
