Lynn in London

With Lynn back from her hedonistic three weeks in Spain just enthralled by the food and the people and the architecture, I hosted her again for her final week in London where she got to meet Julian and Yoko and enjoy decent Mexican food at Wahaca as well as doing some home baking and wowing See Yun and myself with her first attempt at chocolate brownies – decadently rich.

One of the best things about having her around coupled with her zest for life is that she never ceases to surprise me with stuff about my home city. For example, one day inbetween all the maternity and baby clothes shopping she took me to check out the Wallace Collection for the first time. Amazingly, it’s hidden just behind Selfridges and I never knew it was there before.

I’m really not one for looking at art but I simply loved just wandering through the building with its plush galleries. Whilst admiring the artefacts in the Oriental Armoury gallery I came across two paintings by Horace Vernet which caught my attention for their photo-realistic nature. The one shown above was painted in 1843 … thats’s 166 years ago … I was amazed and spent ages admiring how he captured the falling light so well.

Whilst I was leaving I had this random thought that it would be a pretty cool place to get married in. After asking one of the attendants I was surprised that it was possible only to have Lynn quickly add, whilst pointing to her bump, that it wasn’t actually us who were thinking about getting married there! ^^

So just as we did before, we had such a fun time hanging out continued my informal education on what it’s like to be an expectant father. Never come between a pregnant girl and her need to eat really bad fried food – like KFC. ^_~

And with her leaving yesterday, I kinda miss coming home from work to give her a big hug, check on baby, and catch up on her day. Though, since I’ll be swinging by Melbourne in September I’m really looking forward to meeting their new addition then. Can’t wait!!!
