Been a few days since I did my last post as I’ve been quite busy with juggling the various facets of my life that I love doing … keeping up with my swimming which I’m totally enjoying, trying out my new buchimgae dish on a friend whilst discussing the finer points of photography, closing off one photo assignment and negotiating the start of another (more to come on that next month), and having one of my best friends Lynn, visiting from Melbourne for a few days, having me in fits of laughter as she always does.
But beyond all of that, I’m having such a blast planning my crazy “around-the-world in 30 days trip” based on Virgin Atlantic’s “The Great Escapade” RTW ticket. I may or may not be able to do this depending if I still have a job by then and the sheer cost of it so let’s see.
The inspiration for this came from two wedding invitations. Annie’s in the first weekend of September followed by Justine’s, two weeks later, in the third weekend of September. So rather than go to each seperately why not going round the world and see where I can go as well. So, without further ado, here’s my proposed insane itinerary.
The idea is spending the first 20 days visiting LA, maybe a South Pacific island, Wellington, Melbourne, Perth and Singapore. And then the next 10 days to do a a short 6-7 day trip based out of Hong Kong possibly to Mongolia, Tibet (if the Chinese government will actually issue me with a visa), or Cambodia.
So far the planning has been a sublime mixture of combining the heady joy of imagining all the places to visit with the stone-cold reality of the practicalities of sequencing the trip so that I don’t end up spending all my time:
- Becoming a nerdy expert on the interiors of various planes
- Waking up at random times wondering which city I’m in today because of jet lag
- (Worst of all) simply not seeing the real heart of each place because I’m in too much of a hurry
For those of you who have been out that way or know of the various places that I’m hitting, would be great to hear your suggestions / feedback on the trip. Just comment or email me … whatever works for you.

I would like to strongly suggest that you alter your itinerary to go to LA with a stopover in South Florida, so you can come visit us! :)
As for the trip in general, I do think you’re totally insane for even imagining the thing, but wow, if you manage to pull it off, I know I, for one, will be insanely jealous.
Its a challenging plan u have there, kind of an amazing race ….. u know yr frens like u to stay longer ;0)
I know Andrea … just only so much time and so much to cover. Though I definitely don’t want to feel like I’m racing against the clock … am meant to be enjoying myself too!!!
