Delhi to Kathmandu – Orchha – Part 1

Image above: A sadu, a devotee to Lord Shiva, medidates on rock in Betwa River as the sun starts to set. [Tuesday 27 January]

Arriving in Orchha the previous night, here’s the first of two photo sets on the pictureseque and sleepy town of Orchha in Madhya Pradesh state.

Some of the highlights were:

  • Appreciating the magnificence of  Jahangir Mahal palace which was only used by the Emperor once before he passed away and it was never used again
  • Meeting the local women who worked at the paper making factory set up to give them worthwhile employment
  • Wandering through the town where I got to play chess with some locals and saw life on the nearby Betwa river
  • Visiting a nearby farmhouse where I was entertained by the kids as well as the folk music before finishing off with enjoying a deliciously home-cooked meal outdoors
