Yeji’s Day in London

Image above: Really really early on a Sunday morning we arrive at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant so that Yeji and I can have breakfast there.

With Yeji scheduled to fly back home on Mon (19 Jan), we spent the weekend before having so much fun hanging out together, chatting about both serious and silly stuff, taking photos, and generally making the most of her time before she had to leave.

On the Sunday, her last full day in the UK, she had two requests. London Eye and eat at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant – Fifteen. Unfortunately, the London Eye had suffered some technical fault so that wasn’t possible and usually Fifteen is fully booked months in advance. However, it does a no-reservation breakfast so Yeji got me up at some super early time so that we could be sure of getting a table there. OK OK … it was actually only 08:00 but that’s early for Sunday!!!

The breakfast was absolutely delicious and also included a funny interlude where a waitress and I both failed to explain to Yeji what museli was!

After breakfast, I took her to see Columbia Road Flower Market for the first time and, once we had worked out what Tomoko’s favourite colour was, Yeji got Tomoko this beautiful pink orchid . Also, whilst we were there, Yeji helped me choose a framed magnetic wall map from Future Maps that I’ve been thinking about getting. So now I can map all the places yet to visit … and there’s still a lot!

Then we headed over to Tomoko’s to join Min and the girls for lunch before Min’s flight that evening and so that Yeji could give Tomoko the orchid. Min wanted a fry up and so I volunteered to make another one for her and had the surreal deja-vu experience of cooking in a university hall kitchen once again.

And after wishing Min a safe flight back to Korea, I took Yeji to see Tower Bridge at sunset before we took the boat to Greenwich so she could see London from the water for a change.

Thanks Yeji for hanging out with me and I had such a great time that day. Remember, next time you’re back, we’re definitely doing the London Eye!
