Image above: Just managing to capture this shot of a cute Chinese girl who runs towards me with a huge amount of hay which she dumped over me and my camera! [Saturday 13 September]
Sometimes it’s really great to just be a kid again.
Last Saturday I was at the Thames Festival and caught up with Kay and her friends at Southwark Bridge. There we found quite a few people, kids and adults alike, having this huge hay fight and having so much fun doing it. So me, ever in search of a great photo, ventured into the midst of the arena my camera and actually I was pretty unscatched for awhile shooting away.
That is, until this cute Chinese girl (in the photo below) ran up to me with a huge bundle of hay and dumped it straight on top of me and my camera. I just managed to take this shot before I got swamped and I just love how it captures her wonderfully mischievous grin and the whole fun spirit of being there.
With her dumping hay on me it prompted all her friends do the same so I was a proper sight afterwards covered head-to-toe in hay – much to the amusement of everyone standing much further back! Ah well, at least I know my camera is also straw-proof now. :)
So top three things to know in a hay fight:
- If you wear a woollen top it attracts straw like a damn strong magnet
- If you wear a woollen hooded top (like yours truly did) you will collect hay that you will still be finding it days later
- Forget looking cool just get in there and have fun!
So now you know … one of the highlights of the weekend and it reminded me of how much I had when Ray, Molly, and I got totally covered in icing sugar for a beignet photo!
I’ll be posting up the rest of the photos of that day just as soon as I’m done with the Malta photo sets.
